May the Lord watch over us all

It is so sad to have heard the tragedy that occurred in Fort Hood. I don’t know all the details, but to even know that someone had the mentality to do that…horrific.

This is now brought even closer to home for me. This morning, I found out that the base we are stationed at had its own misfortune. All, I have heard was that one guy killed another Marine, left him under the pullup bars, then went to slit his own wrists. To make this worse for me, it happened just a half mile from where my husband works.

The whole base was on lock-down, but my husband knew nothing of it! I called to make sure he and his friends were okay, and he hadn’t heard!

How does all this happen in places that most would consider the safest place to be?? I know at least I would rather be in a secure, self-sustaining military base while everything outside is chaotic!

I mean, yes, the rest of the world may target military bases in the thought that crippling them, would also cripple and stun the whole country (and they are right). But to have killings happen within the base (supposing the Fort Hood shooter isn’t a terrorist, like some are implying) is outrageous!

As a fellow military member, I understand the brotherhood, the bond that all military members share, no matter what the branch! (yes, each branch has their arguments, but in the heat of battle, most everyone of them would sacrifice for the one next to them) And to actually go on a killing rampage on their own family is unfathomable!

My thoughts and prayers are with those friends and family of the lives lost.
